Alan Wake

Must have!

While Alan Wake isn't as scary as the likes of a Silent Hill game it nonetheless has outstanding gameplay and a sense of urgency that pushes you through the story. It's an excellent thriller and a shining example of how a port from a console should be done. The only downsides to this game are poor mouse/keyboard implementation (great controller response though) , a definite lack of variety in adversaries, and it's linear to a fault. It's still one hell of a ride though and you don't want to miss it.

The 11th Hour

3 1/2 stars for a mixed up sequel

Note this "review" is from what I remember playing T11H when it first came out. My overall opinion may change when get to play it again from GOG. While technically superior in almost every way to The 7th Guest, The 11th Hour fell short of T7G story wise. More video sequences, more in depth characters but unfortunately the characters weren't really ones anyone could care about. The music in the game was also a let down for me compared to the original coming off more as an experiment for Team Fat than producing something that it the overall theme of the game. However the gameplay itself was great, a bit more diverse than T7G to add some new elements. The story is passable if not memorable. It was a technical treat visually for it's time. A solid offering for it's time and worth a play or two but it won't leave you with the same sense of awe that T7G.

The 7th Guest

One of the first multimedia classics.

The 7th Guest and Myst shared the top of the video game charts for a long time. Dark, creepy, intelligent and beautiful all at the same time this is one of the earliest masterpieces of multimedia gaming. It stands out as one of the better examples of a video game that uses live actors and is an early example of what quality music brings to the gaming table. The 7th Guest belongs in the hall of fame of GOG because it's one of the foundations of gaming in all it's forms.
